The quickest way to answer this question is to use our calculator! We work hard to make shipping simple, but it’s actually pretty complex. Carriers price based on both dimensions and weight, so we do too. There’s an actual formula, but we’re happy to do the math for you, which is why we ship in categories. If you’re curious, you can scroll down for the details!
Size Categories
We ship within twelve categories, which are determined by the dimensions and weight of your shipment.

How to measure your shipment
Always measure from the longest point. If you're shipping luggage, that means from the wheels up. Carriers deal in whole numbers, and they always round up, so if your suitcase is 21.2 inches, you should enter 22 inches into the calculator.
Are there any size restrictions?
Yes! When using our calculator, you’ll always be warned if your shipment is too large. Our labels can cover up to 75 billable pounds for luggage and boxes, and up to 90 billable pounds for large skis. If you ship more than you purchased, but are still within our size limits, you’ll simply be billed the difference as an adjustment. Those adjustments are based on a low per-pound rate, which you can calculate yourself. If you exceed our largest category, you may be subject to additional surcharges by the carrier.
What if I ship less than I paid for?
If you ship less than you paid for, we are unable to refund the difference. Carriers only adjust up, not down. We think it would be fairer if the carriers adjusted in both directions, but that is not how they currently operate.
Keep in mind that because shipping is based on both dimensions and weight, even if your shipment is on the lighter side, its size can push it into a larger category.
How do I calculate my per-pound rate?
You can calculate your per-pound rate for overages by dividing the total transit cost by the total weight that was paid for in advance. If you booked a 50 lb bag for $27.99, you would do the following:
$27.99 / 50 lb = $0.56/lb for overages
What is the maximum size?
Any package with a length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined that exceeds 165 inches (419 cm) can not be shipped. If it is somehow accepted by a carrier, it may incur fees of up to $2,000 USD.
What is the maximum weight?
We recommend keeping each piece in your shipment under 90 pounds. However, you can technically ship up to 100 pounds with our carriers. Shipments that exceed 90 pounds will be deemed a Large Package by the carrier, however. Shipments exceeding 100 pounds may be subject to costly handling charges of up to $1,500 USD per package.
What is a “Large Package?”
A Large Package is any shipment that meets one or more of the following criteria:
- 90+ billable pounds
- Length plus girth (length + [(2 x width) + (2 x height)]) combined exceeds 130 inches (330 cm)
- Length exceeds 96 inches (244 cm)
- A Large Package is subject to a $170 USD surcharge and a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds (40 kgs)
Large Packages can trigger "additional handling," which voids all LugLess guarantees.
FAQs
What happens if my package exceeds the size category? If you ship more than was paid for, the difference will be collected after delivery in the form of an adjustment. Any changes in billing are communicated via email!
When will I be billed for any adjustments? The billing cycle can last up to three weeks after delivery. Adjustments are issued after the carrier processes billing.
