Your bags and boxes may travel by plane, train, and truck, and will be handled multiple times. The right packing makes all the difference.
Coverage reminder: LugLess Value Protection covers clothing and sports equipment only. Loss or damage to other goods (e.g., electronics, glass, artwork, collectibles) is excluded from coverage.
Choose your packing path
1) Ship naked luggage (no box)
If you’re sending a suitcase or golf, ski, or snowboard case as-is:
- Use a sturdy suitcase in good condition that properly seals.
- Remove old airline tags and barcodes.
- Place the copy of your label inside the case; securely attach the shipping label on the outside so it stays flat and scannable.
- For sports gear, use a travel case designed for your item (golf clubs, skis, snowboards) or place the equipment in a box.
Pro tip: If you’re worried about scuffs or abrasion, box your luggage for added protection.
2) Ship boxed luggage (suitcase packed inside a box)
Best for protecting your suitcase and contents:
- Use a new or like-new, heavy-duty, double-walled, corrugated shipping box—no tears, rips, bends, or water damage.
- Cushion the suitcase so it doesn’t shift: line the box and fill any voids.
- Close with pressure-sensitive packing tape (at least 2" wide) on all seams; no string or paper wrap.
- Affix the label flat on the largest face; place the copy label inside the box.
3) Ship contents in a box (no suitcase)
Sending items directly in a box? Follow these must-dos:
Use the right box
-
New or like-new, heavy-duty, double-walled, corrugated shipping box only.
-
Size appropriately: if it bulges or loses its boxy shape, it’s overpacked and at risk of damage. Use a larger or split your shipment into two boxes.
Correct packaging:
Incorrect packaging:
Protect and organize
- Wrap items individually (bubble wrap or similar). Contents should not directly touch the inside of the box.
- Fill all voids so nothing rattles; maintain 2"–3" of cushioning on all sides.
- Keep the weight reasonable for the box style; add another shipment if needed.
Close and label
- Seal every seam with pressure-sensitive plastic or nylon-reinforced tape (min. 2" wide).
- Do not use string, paper over-wrap, or crumple the label.
- Remove old labels; ensure delivery details are accurate. Place a copy label inside the box.
Do not ship fragile items
- Please do not ship fragile or breakable items (glass, ceramics, electronics, monitors/TVs, framed art, liquids, perishable or temperature-sensitive goods). These items are at high risk in network transit and are not covered by LugLess Value Protection.
Quick Do’s & Don’ts
Do
- Use a new or like-new, strong, rigid double-walled corrugated box when boxing.
- Wrap items separately and cushion thoroughly.
- Securely attach the shipping label and keep one inside.
- Use proper packing tape and tape all seams.
Don’t
- Don’t reuse worn boxes or ship boxes with lifted flaps or exposed contents.
- Don’t overpack—if the box is misshapen, it’s overfilled.
- Don’t ship fragile items or anything excluded from coverage.
- Don’t leave old labels or barcodes on your luggage or box.
Final checks before you ship
- Confirm your address details are correct on the label.
- Weigh your packed item to ensure it aligns with your selected category.
- Add another bag/box in your LugLess account if needed, never force it into one.
If you have questions about whether a specific item is allowed or covered, check What items are prohibited? or All about the weight of your bag, or contact us before you ship.
Why this matters: Proper materials and careful packing help your shipment withstand the bumps of multi-day transit and handling—so it arrives safely and on time.
